LAS VEGAS, Oct. 30, 2018
 – Following the surprising appearance of Kia’s newest SUV, the upcoming Telluride, at this year’s New York Fashion Week9, the brand known for taking chances returns to SEMA with an outdoor activation that’s bigger and better than ever, eclipsing Kia’s 2017 SEMA drifting experience. Designed as a thrill ride for those brave enough to jump into the passenger seats of four highly-modified Tellurides, Kia’s 2018 “Torque Track,” located just outside the sprawling Las Vegas Convention Center (Orange lot), promises to leave a lasting impression and will be running through Thursday. The custom off-road course puts these Tellurides through their paces, including a jump, mountain climb and water incursion - all showcasing their off-roading potential. Meanwhile, back by popular demand, professional Formula Drift drivers will provide ride-alongs, granting those with an adrenaline addiction the opportunity to be pinned against Stinger GT’s race-inspired seats. Drivers will effortlessly slide customized Stinger GTs around corners and launch the cars from 0-to-60 mph before bringing them to a full stop with the vehicles’ high-performance Brembo brakes.

“We surprised everyone with Telluride’s special appearance in New York earlier this year; we showed its stylish swagger on a fashion runway and now at SEMA we are showcasing the vehicle’s more rugged side,” said Saad Chehab, Vice President, Marketing Communications, Kia Motors America. “Of course a production Telluride won’t be able to fly over extreme jumps like these modified versions, but we want the SEMA attendees to get to know Kia as the youthful brand we are and we think the Torque Track does that in a very special way.”

Kia partnered with LGE-CTS Motorsports to conceive the four special-built Tellurides and each vehicle has its own distinctive design and style. Themed after different off-road environments, all four are powered by a stout V6 engine with all-wheel drive. The interiors showcase Telluride’s exquisite materials and craftsmanship and offer a quiet respite from the hectic SEMA show experience. Set to debut in its production form at the upcoming 2019 North American International Auto Show, the 8-occupant Telluride is planned to go on sale in the U.S. in the first half of next year.

Telluride Horizon RoamerWith its sights set on the difficult and challenging Rubicon Trail, the Telluride Horizon Roamer takes on the Kia Torque Track with the following modifications:
  • Unique Bright Orange paint
  • Roof-mounted cargo rack with integrated LED light bar
  • Custom front brush guard
  • Snorkel for deep-water fording
  • Front brush guard and skid plate
  • Straight-pipe exhaust
  • Black Rhino 32-inch wheels with Milestar Patagonia Mud Terrain tires

Telluride Horizon Roamer

Telluride Cadet LeaderTrailblazing is the kind of off-roading that can get very tricky, very quickly. An unseen drop, an off-camber articulation, a break-over that rips out the oil pan, being in front of it all requires some specialized equipment, including:
  • Flat Military Green & Black paint
  • Rotopak carrier on the rear quarter panels
  • Brush guard with skid plate
  • Roof rack
  • Rear tube bumper with skid plate
  • Modified straight pipe exhaust
  • Black Rhino 32-inch wheels with Milestar Patagonia Mud Terrain tires
  • Amber Halo LED lights

Telluride Cadet Leader

Telluride Desert DrifterOne of the most hostile off-road environments lies just outside the glittering lights of Las Vegas and if your vehicle isn’t up to the challenge, it can mean serious consequences. Fortunately, the Telluride Desert Drifter is up to the test.
  • Desert Military Tan and Black paint
  • Hood-mounted Rotopacks
  • Brush guard with skid plate
  • Roof rack
  • Rear tube bumper with skid plate
  • Modified straight pipe exhaust
  • Black Rhino 32-inch wheels with Milestar Patagonia Mud Terrain tires
  • Halo LED light bar

Telluride Desert Drifter
Telluride “Desert Drifter” performs in some of the harshest conditions
Telluride Baja Glider
Don’t let the name fool you; “gliding” south of the border through Mexico’s legendary off-road countryside simply doesn’t happen. But properly equipped with some very tough gear, the Telluride Baja Glider makes a tough drive almost like a walk in the park.
  • Deep Black paint
  • Forged tube front bumper with skid plate
  • Curved LED front light bar and roof-mounted LED light bar
  • Custom rear tube bumper with skid plate
  • Modified straight pipe exhaust
  • Black Rhino 32-inch wheels with Milestar Patagonia Mud Terrain tires

Telluride Baja Glider

Suspension ModificationsRegardless of each Telluride’s off-road personality, all four have highly modified suspensions that have been purpose-built to handle the rigors of multiple days of abuse on the Kia Torque Track.
  • Front suspension:
    • KW Motorsports inverted-shaft long-travel McPherson struts with remote reservoirs, linear bearings and 3-way adjustable damping
    • 3-inch wider track
    • Fabricated lower control arms
    • Corrected bump steer and roll center
    • 2-inch increased travel
    • King hydraulic bump stops, shock tower reinforcements
  • Rear suspension:
    • KW Motorsports long travel inverted WRC spec shocks with remote reservoirs and 3-way adjustable damping
    • 3-inch wider track
    • Fabricated multi-link suspension with toe curve and anti-squat correction
    • Longer trailing arms for constant geometry
    • 1.5-inch increased travel than stock
    • King hydraulic bump stops

New York Fashion Week Brandon Maxwell Telluride
A bespoke version of Kia Motors America’s largest and most refined SUV – the upcoming all-new 2020 Telluride – made its first public appearance during fashion designer Brandon Maxwell’s New York Fashion Week show in September and makes its West Coast debut here at SEMA. Created by Kia’s U.S. design studio in Irvine, California, the customized Telluride that appeared on the runway drew influence from Maxwell’s Spring Summer 2019 collection: “Texas.”

The one-of-a-kind Telluride provides a thought-provoking glimpse into the creative process that takes place when designers in separate industries collaborate. This specially tailored Telluride includes several nods to Maxwell’s Texas roots, including natural wood interior trim and saddle-inspired double-stitched leather adornments on the dash, door panels and grab handles. Similar leather details cover the outside rearview mirrors and door handles. Outside, the Telluride’s deep green paint reflects the color of the concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit two years ago. Custom front and rear bumpers, skidplates and sidestep sills exude a ranch-ready look that’s backed up with a hidden winch and a snorkel for deep-river fording. Burly 265/50R-20 off-road tires wrap around flat-black alloy wheels and the spare tire has been custom mounted to the rear hatch, which opens to a metal- and leather-trimmed cargo area. A custom wood and aluminum roof rack with a beautiful custom leather tow strap tongue provide the perfect finishing touches.

2020 Kia Forte GTKia will also spread its amazing product looks and muscle inside SEMA with the debut of its new performance Forte, the GT. The Stinger GT took the lead last year and now Kia welcomes the Forte GT. The Forte GT will be offered in GT1 and GT2 packages and is set to go on sale next summer. The GT trim is fitted with a 201-horsepower turbocharged engine, fully independent front and rear suspension and growling sport-tuned exhaust – all direct from the factory to the show floor. Available 18-inch high-performance Michelin Sport summer tires mounted on GT-exclusive two-tone alloy wheels, LED headlights, projector fog lights, GT-exclusive black sport grille with red highlights, gloss black power outside mirrors, sport side sills and rear spoiler help set this hot sedan apart from the crowd. An available 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, alloy sport pedals, leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, elevate the driving characteristics of this compact sedan to all-out sport sedan. Available “Sofino” GT sport seats with contrasting piping and performance side bolsters, an available power sunroof with LED interior overhead lighting, and LED ambient interior lighting with illuminated GT dash inlay advance the performance GT’s vigorous spirit.

Queensland Police StingerWhen Australia’s Queensland Police needed a new fleet of pursuit vehicles, they went all-in on the 365-horsepower Kia Stinger GT.  Citing the fastback’s performance during rigorous testing, Queensland police will put 100 Stinger GTs into service over the next 12 months. Testifying to the Stinger’s build quality, the only modification Queensland Police made to the Australian-spec Stinger is a plug-and-play wiring loom to accommodate the police electronics. Otherwise everything is standard—engine, brakes, suspension, etc.  Special equipment, such as radios, emergency lights, and other equipment was added by Queensland Police. Assistant Queensland Police Service Commissioner (Road Policing Command) Mike Keating said the selection process was extensive. “It started with the desktop evaluation, then a track performance evaluation and then the operational evaluation conducted in real-world conditions. The final overall evaluation and review included the very important aspect of maintenance and cost. The Stinger performed very well in all areas and we had nothing but top reports from all the field officers. The result is a road-policing first for us, the first foreign car to perform these duties.”

2019 DUB Kia Stinger GTDUB took the aggressive fastback sedan and made a series of menacing modifications that take Stinger GT to unexpected places inside, outside and under the hood. Wrapped in Avery Brushed Steel with carbon fiber accents, the wide body Stinger rolls on 22-inch staggered Dropstars forged wheels riding on 245/30-22 Nitto Tires (front) and 265/30-22 Nitto Tires (rear). A stunning red leather and black suede upholstery upgrade the Stinger’s already outstanding driver-focused cockpit, and custom exhaust and air intake give the rapid Stinger GT even more muscle. Meanwhile, a custom audio system, LED lighting, underhood dress-up kit, air ride suspension and DUBiR tinted windows further prove that no detail was missed per DUB’s exacting clientele.

Kia’s 2019 K900 provided the perfect canvas for DUB to unleash its creativity on this uninhibited custom ride. Veiled in electric blue, the wide body K900 features gloss black accents and, not to be outdone, the cockpit has been elegantly detailed with custom blue and black leather and suede upholstery, DUBiR tinted windows, and remote-controlled LED headliner and lighting. Riding on an air suspension to provide that perfect DUB look, this custom K900 rolls on 24-inch staggered TIS forged wheels and 275/25/24 Nitto tires. 2019 Kia Forte FederationKia’s hot Forte Federation furthers Kia’s commitment to the aftermarket industry with a veritable cornucopia of performance and design enhancing accessories10. The unique vehicle is outfitted with parts from leading aftermarket suppliers, including aggressive aerodynamic components by Air Design such as a rear deck spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts, front lip spoiler and front air curtains which all provide a stunning contrast for the Livid Lime paint scheme. A cold air intake by K&N coupled with an axle-back performance exhaust by Borla make this Forte scream. Meanwhile, progressive-rate sport springs by Eibach, 19-inch “Mosport” wheels by TSW and ultra-high-performance tires by Falken enhance handling. Adding fuel to the aftermarket fire, these parts and accessories will be available for purchase from the respective suppliers.

Kia Forte Drift CarKia’s Forte Drift Car was developed in partnership with Red Bull, the star of Kia’s recent ad campaign. Built from a production Forte EX, this particular compact sedan was modified into a monster. Kia shoehorned Stinger GT’s twin-turbo V6 into the Forte, but the twin-turbo V6 now points North-South. With some tricky engineering, this Forte has became a 375-horsepower rear-wheel drive beast with a custom intake manifold, six-speed sequential transmission, quick change rear differential and a hybrid drift/grip suspension that begs to be drifted. This one-of-a-kind vehicle also features a hydraulic rear hand brake, custom wide body aerodynamics and a roll cage.  Red Bull and Race Service brought this fantasy into reality.

KIA MOTORS AMERICA AND B.R.A.K.E.S. TEEN DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL EXPAND MIDWEST TRAINING SCHEDULE

Fleet of Kia Vehicles Utilized to Teach Teens and Their Parents Responsible Driving Habits
  • Teens who graduate from B.R.A.K.E.S. are 64 percent less likely to be in a crash in their first three years of driving1
  • Kia Soul, Forte and Rio models used for hands-on instruction
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 29, 2018 – Kia Motors America and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe) are expanding the number of free defensive driving classes offered in the Midwest.  Working with B.R.A.K.E.S., Kia aims to reduce the high rate of teens involved in motor vehicle crashes.  B.R.A.K.E.S. has provided training for more than 30,000 teens and their parents nationwide since the program was founded in 2008.  Research shows that teens who complete the B.R.A.K.E.S. program are 64 percent less likely to be in a crash in their first three years of driving1.
Midwest-based Kia Dealer Marketing Groups – with additional support from the Kansas and Missouri Departments of Transportation and other area businesses – have worked together to bring B.R.A.K.E.S. classes to Warrensburg, Missouri (Sept. 15 and Sept. 16); Topeka, Kansas (Sept. 22 and Sept. 23); Detroit (Sept. 29 and Sept. 30); Chicago (Oct. 6 and Oct. 7); Kansas City, Kansas (Oct.. 27 and Oct. 28); St. Louis (Nov. 3 and Nov. 4); Cincinnati (Nov. 10 and Nov. 11) and Cleveland (Nov. 17 and Nov 18).  To register for a class or see the upcoming schedule nationwide, visit https://putonthebrakes.org/shop.
“Kia is committed to safer driving and a key component is practical, hands-on advanced education to equip drivers with the knowledge and experience needed for dealing with real-life driving situations,” said Saad Chehab, vice president, Marketing Communications, Kia Motors America.  “We continually strive to advance vehicle safety through engineering, but safety features alone do not make for a safer driver. The B.R.A.K.E.S. program helps Kia advance those values by providing teens and their parents with tools to make smart decisions while on the road.”
Kia serves as the Official Vehicle and presenting sponsor of B.R.A.K.E.S.  Kia’s support helps B.R.A.K.E.S. offer free training for all attendees by offsetting costs through a financial donation and a 44-vehicle fleet, including Soul, Rio and Forte models.
“The support Kia and its dealers have provided for the B.R.A.K.E.S. program is invaluable,” said multi-time-Top-Fuel-drag-racing-champion-turned-road-safety-advocate Doug Herbert, who founded the charity after the tragic loss of his two teenage sons in a car crash.  “Car crashes are the number-one cause of death among teens, but working with Kia and our other supporters to continue to expand our schedule of schools, we’re confident that we can help prevent injuries, save lives and make our roads safer for everyone.”
Advanced Driver Training
B.R.A.K.E.S. provides participating teens and their parents with free hands-on, advanced driver training taught by professional instructors, including current and former members of law enforcement, professional racers and stunt drivers.  B.R.A.K.E.S. maintains a low three-to-one student-to-instructor ratio to maximize educational effectiveness.
Each school includes four hours of training, starting with a short, 45-minute classroom presentation followed by nearly three hours behind the wheel of new Kia vehicles. The program includes distracted driving awareness, panic braking, drop-wheel/off-road recovery, crash avoidance and car control/skid recovery – all among the biggest causes of crashes for new drivers.  Other educational elements often include ‘Big Rig’ safety, first responder vehicle extrication demonstration, and what to do in the event of a traffic stop.

Kia Teams with Red Bull as well as Pro Race Car Driver Collete Davis for a Daring Demonstration of the 2019 Forte’s Agile Handling and Stinger-Inspired Design

  • In-your-face marketing campaign includes a long-form, one-take video chronicling Collete Davis jumping a Forte
  • “Forte vs. Forte” spot kicks off the campaign and features a custom Forte drift car
IRVINE, Calif., September 19, 2018 – Stung with styling cues from the award-winning Stinger, the all-new 2019 Kia Forte is now arriving in showrooms and Kia Motors America is pulling out all the stops to introduce the world to its most sophisticated compact car ever. Professional race car driver, Collete Davis, stars in a high-flying marketing campaign showing off the Forte’s sporty design, advanced technology1 and Stinger-inspired driving dynamics in a way the compact class has never seen before.
The campaign includes three, 30-second spots: “Forte vs. Forte”, “Chicken” and “Smoke Machine”. The first spot – “Forte vs. Forte” – features a Forte drift car alongside the production model Forte driven by Davis, one of the most promising and dynamic drivers on the racing circuit today. As Collete speeds down the track she calmly points out the standard 8-inch touchscreen2 as she takes the production model Forte airborne and sails high above and over the drift car Forte. The spot ends when Davis nails the landing as the announcer says matter-of-factly, “It Doesn’t Have to Make Sense.”
“Kia continues to shock the industry and break the rules and the all-new 2019 Forte is no exception,” said Saad Chehab, vice president of marketing communications, Kia Motors America. “This adrenaline-filled campaign featuring a baby Stinger in a Red Bull suit screams ‘look at me’ even though some may question the idea of a Forte in racing livery, we are delivering an entirely new take on what many people see as simply a daily commuter car. And then again, some are still surprised to learn that Kia has been J.D. Power’s highest ranked non-luxury brand in initial quality for the past four years3, but to us and our loyal consumers all of it makes complete sense.”
Kia and Red Bull collaborated on the Forte drift car and are developing a three-part YouTube series hosted by Davis and featuring the Red Bull Driftbrothers, Joe and Elias Hountondji. The series documents the vehicle build from start to finish, including on-track testing. “Kia is fueled by youth and working with Red Bull is a mirror reflection of our youthful attitude and together we are going to showcase the new Forte in never-before-seen ways that are sure to capture attention,” continued Chehab.
Featuring a more sophisticated design and desirable features the 2019 Forte has transformed from a basic commuter into one of Kia’s best-selling vehicles. Thanks to a number of improvements Forte now offers drivers a higher level of comfort and Kia Drive Wise4 technologies that are aimed at making the journey – whether a short commute or long haul – a more rewarding and decidedly upscale experience. Sporting an overall bolder appearance, the newly designed compact sedan also boasts improved EPA-estimated combined MPG ratings5.
There’s also a long-form video – which was shot in one take and captured by seven strategically placed cameras – chronicling Davis’ jump from both in- and outside the Forte.
“As a professional race car driver, I love to drive all types of models and this spot, with the juxtaposition between daily driving and performance was just too fun to pass up,” said Davis. “When you have a passion for driving, even the most mundane errands, the longest commutes or the biggest traffic jams become easier and the all-new 2019 Forte is the vehicle that makes all the difference in those situations.”

RIO AND STINGER NAMED SEGMENT WINNERS IN J.D. POWER 2018 AUTOMOTIVE PERFORMANCE, EXECUTION, AND LAYOUT (APEAL) STUDY

Kia’s Overall Score Increases Eight Points Since Last Year
  • Rio and Stinger fastback sedan dazzled in their respective segments
  • Kia continues to cement its place among the top 10 non-premium brands
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 2, 2018 – Following the launch of the 2018 Rio and highly anticipated 2018 Stinger, Kia Motors America (KMA) has earned two more J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) awards for its stylish subcompact and its powerful fastback sports sedan.  The double win helped increase Kia’s overall score by eight points since last year, while also securing the brand’s spot among the top 10 non-premium nameplates. The announcement follows Kia Motors being named the highest ranked mass market brand in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for the fourth consecutive year1, with the Rio also capturing a win in the small car segment.
“Whether it be a practical commuter car for people just looking to get from point A to B, or a sports sedan with up to 365-horsepower for enthusiasts, we design every Kia with the customer in mind,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA.  “Earning a J.D. Power APEAL award for both the Rio and Stinger demonstrates the level of dedication we put on delivering a superior combination of the desirable features and attributes today’s savvy car buyers want from their vehicles.”
Completely redesigned for the 2018 model year, the Rio outshined the competition in the small car segment, being one of the only contenders to score the highest marks in overall performance and design, comfort, features, and style. The highest performing vehicle in Kia’s history, Stinger bested its more expensive European counterparts in the compact premium car segment.
The J.D. Power APEAL study measures new-vehicle owners’ overall satisfaction with their vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership.  The results are divided into 10 categories and weighted accordingly: exterior, interior, storage, audio, seats, heating and ventilation, driving dynamics, powertrain, visibility, and fuel economy.

Kia Owners Reported Fewer Issues Within the First 90 Days of Ownership than All Other Non-Luxury Car and Truck Brands in the U.S.
  • After ranking highest in the entire industry in 2016 and 2017, Kia’s reported problem levels remain unchanged from 2017 to capture the top mass market automaker spot
  • Sorento SUV and Rio subcompact models topped their respective segments
IRVINE, Calif., June 20, 2018 – For the fourth consecutive year, Kia was recognized as the number one non-premium brand by J.D. Power in the 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS), with a reported 72 problems per 100 vehicles.  Kia maintained its leadership position with segment-leading performances from the Sorento (Midsize SUV) and Rio (Small Car), while Optima (Midsize Car), Sportage (Small SUV) and Sedona (Minivan) placed second and the Forte (Compact Car) placed third in their respective segments.
“Ranking number one among all mass market brands for four consecutive years leaves no doubt as to the world-class quality and craftsmanship instilled in every car and SUV that Kia builds,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America. “With two segment winners and four additional models finishing in the top three of their respective segments, the evidence of Kia’s progression and focus on the ownership experience is overwhelming.”
The annual report analyzed responses from 75,712 respondents with regards to 240 vehicle models across 26 segments. Vehicles were evaluated on driving experience, engine and transmission performance and a broad range of quality issues reported by vehicle owners.
